2020年10月17日托福独立写作范文：Do you agree or disagree with the statement: economic growth should be slowed down concern about the environment.

范文如下：

Increasing and developing economic growth is a key focus of many governments. In fulfilling these economic goals, many countries have debated whether or not the environment should be taken into consideration. I believe that in order to sustain a prolonged period of economic growth and development, governments should promote policies of environmental sustainability.

A problem that many developed nations face now, is that many of their factories are several decades old and are no longer able to produce at the same rate as newer factories. Not only are their machines outdated and inefficient, but they also require huge amounts of energy and resources. Consequently these factories are not financially or environmentally sustainable. Converting and updating these factories is costly and time consuming, creating a challenge for developed countries who wish to remain competitive in the global market. Therefore, building factories and developing technology that are environmentally sustainable from this start is in the better interest of the long-term success of an economy. Even though the initial costs might be higher than building a traditional, non-environmentally friendly factory, in the long run it is better business to implement environmental policies now than later.
