2019年6月19日托福独立写作考了这样一道题：If you go traveling to a city for the first time, and you have only a limited amount of time, which ONE of the three activities will you do?

1) touring the historic sites;

2) shopping on some of the local markets;

3) going to the local restaurants or cafés.

托福写作范文如下：

It is not unlikely that a person visits a city for the first time and has only some time. The person may visit the city’s historic sites or go to the local restaurants or cafés. However, there is a better destination, the local markets.

It takes time to properly tour a historic site. First, many of the sites, such as, the Summer Palace, cover massive areas, and a full tour of them can take a whole day, which can hardly be spared out of a busy schedule. Second, many of the sites, such as the Forbidden City, are clusters of ancient buildings in which millions of antiques are displayed. A full view of those ancient objects is impossible for rushing tourists. In short, it is pitiful to have only a brisk tour or view of those sites.

The local restaurants or cafés may be a better choice, since a meal cannot takethat much time. Also, they are the popular destinations among foodies. However, a traveler must travel around rather than sit at a dining table. I would regret that I did not spend the time on touring but in a restaurant. If I were quite familiar with the city, I might find a local diner and spend the time on its terrace, eating and drinking. However, I would not do this during my first visit. As a matter of fact, the satiation of stomach cannot compare with an eye-opening experience, and the delight can be found in the local markets.
