2020年12月6日托福独立写作题目:The government now plans to establish some car-free zones in the center of the city. Some like this plan for they believe it can help eliminate traffic congestion, while others dislike it because not being able to reach places like stores and restaurants by car is very inconvenient to them. What do you think of this plan and why?
Since Henry Ford greatly reduced the cost of manufacturing cars, more and more people could afford cars and cars have become an indispensable tool to travel to various destinations. However, the problem of traffic congestion has also become more serious with more cars being purchased. Thus, how to solve this problem now is a heated discussion. Some people support to establish some car-free zones in the cities, while others strongly argue against it. From my perspective, it is actually beneficial to set up some car-free zones in the city centers.
To begin with, car-free zones could help reduce traffic congestions. Right now, it is common to see in the city center that even outside rush hours, many cars are still stuck in the streets, moving very slowly and the whole streets are like big parking lots, because many people drive to other places by way of city center. However, if the center of the cities could become the car-free zones and no cars are allowed to drive there, this situation could be greatly improved, as instead of going through city centers to travel to various destinations, the drivers may be forced by the car-free zones to use some other roads outside the zones. Since the drivers have different destinations, they may choose different roads. As a result, the amount of traffic on one single road could be reduced.
