2019年11月3日托福独立写作范文:
It is important for people to further their study by taking various kinds of courses even after they have graduated from universities and the quality of the courses people learn largely depends on the professors who play a critical role in guiding students. Therefore, it is natural for people to be concerned about how to choose professors. Some people claim that professors who could win awards in research are the best choice since they are believed to be more knowledgeable and even could help students get more opportunities for research, which paves the way for their future. However, from my perspective, professors who are popular among students are actually better choices.
To begin with, popular professors could make the courses more attractive. Professors who focus on research may know plenty of knowledge, but it is a completely a different thing to impart the knowledge to students. It is quite possible that though they are knowledgeable enough, they couldn’t find the best way to teach students and students are not interested in their teaching at all. However, the well-liked professors usually have some ways to make their classes attracted to students, because that may be the exact reason why they are popular. For example, they may be quite humorous and are able to make students keep laughing all over the class; they may even be quite familiar with all those high-tech devices and could design a class with not only words, but also videos and pictures. Naturally, students will be more interested in the class and can be more concentrated, which surely can help with their grades a lot.
Moreover, professors who are well-liked by students could provide clearer instructions. Those professors who are occupied with researches surely have a large quantity of knowledge in their own field. Some of them may even be able to get the Nobel Prize, which needs not only a lot of efforts, but also even more importantly, plenty of professional knowledge. However, this knowledge may not necessarily help students, since students usually only need to learn the basic knowledge of the field and being too professional in one field may make professors’ instructions confusing. For example, when one awarded professor is asked if the American Civil War was about emancipating slaves, he/she may think hard and says that the situation was way too complicated to say just simply that this war was about the emancipation of slaves. He/she may further explain the complicated situation, which may make the student who doesn’t have much background knowledge confused, since the student may only want to verify the main influence of the Civil War in American history.
