Compared with the first half in the twentieth century, the world’s population has almost doubled. While figuring a solution to food shortage, many countries have adopted new methods to increase food production in order to meet the demands of growth in population. However, as far as I am concerned, to some extent, rise in food production is harmful to the environment.

First, in order to plant more crops, lands whose natures are forestry or pastures have been altered into the use of cultivated lands. We learn that forest and swamps have played an important role in maintaining ecological balance. Numerous flocks of birds and a variety of animals take them as their home. What’s more, swamps and rainforest largely determine an area’s precipitation and humidity, which affects the climate most. For instance, before a part of Amazon rainforest was explored by Brazil government or individuals, there were over two thousand species of animals living, which made a prominent contrast with the poor situation after a part of rainforest was changed into farmlands.
