Friends are those who have confidence in you and offer assistance to you unconditionally;They are always there no matter what happens. On a practical level, friends benefit us in many ways due to the valuable characteristics that they are in possession of. Then which characteristic of a friend is more attractive, being intelligent or humorous? From my perspective, I attach greater importance to intelligence of friends than the sense of humor.

Making friends with intelligent people affords us the opportunity to achieve self-improvement.There is no denying that ingenious people must possess certain significant characteristics making them stand out among the peers. By making friends with them, we are more likely to be positively influenced by them and obtain the important quality and effective methods in dealing with problems we confront in our life, thus increasing the possibility of fulfilling our goals. For example, playing with those who are able to manage their time efficiently helps us foster the ability to plan and organize. Also, talking with a person who enjoys favorable social relationship contributes to the cultivation of our excellent communicating skills. What’s more, learning about a friend who succeeds in realizing his dream through hard work motivates us to set a practical goal and work toward it continuously. Therefore we tend to acquire a myriad of wholesome characteristics by building friendship with intelligent people.

People may prioritize different aspects when choosing friends. While some may be attracted by an intelligent person, I prefer to make friends with those who have a good sense of humor. In addition to the laughters they could bring to my life, I think humorous friends actually means a lot more.

First off, they could add much spice to our daily life. I’ve always been dreaming about having several friends like those in the romcom Friends or The Big Bang Theory. A friend like Rachel may tell me that I look like I slept with a hanger in my mouth, when I tell her I have a crush on a boy and can’t help laughing every time I think of him; a quick-witted friend like Phoebe may incidentally write our life stories into her funny but unforgettable song “Smelly Cat”. Besides, the reason why Sheldon and Penny leaves audiences a deep impression is their sense of humor showcased when exploring the unknown things. So with friends like them, our lives may abound with laughters as if we are the heroes of the comedy. Sure, some may insist that compared to the intellectual support a wise friend offers to us, the delightful moments mentioned above may be insignificant or even vanish. After all, an intelligent friend could help inspire more creative ideas, which is important to working out more complex problems, and making further progress no matter for a student or an employee. But the thing is better alternatives can be easily found to replace a wise friend: teachers, books, professionals and so forth.
