托福独立写作范文:
In America, college students have a long summer vocation from May to September. Without pressure or plans, it is highly possible that students simply squander the time by hanging out with friends and playing computer games. To help students make good use of this precious time, colleges have two proposals: require students to take a course irrelevant to their major or do volunteer jobs to improve local community. In my mind, the latter is a better option.
Admittedly, it is beneficial for students to gain extra knowledge by attending classes. The irreversible trend of cross-discipline brings the significance of expanding one’s knowledge base. To help students survive and succeed in future job market, universities ought to equip them with broad ranges of knowledge, even apart from major courses. Take a student majoring in law as an instance. The knowledge of finance and economics acquired from courses during summer vocation enables him to have better performance in financial crime lawsuits.
However, an alternative for university to help students obtain more cross-discipline knowledge is to ask them to take selective courses while school is in session; as for summer vocation, it is the right time for universities to require students to do volunteer jobs which allow students to cultivate other necessary skills and capabilities for future life. To begin with, by asking students to help improve local community, universities can effectively help students develop social responsibility. Via participating volunteer jobs, youngsters lacking social experiences are able to find what people need and how to respond to it. The sense of achievement derived from helping others help people resume their duty. For example, working voluntarily in local clinics, medical students can convey health knowledge and help residents improve awareness on healthy lifestyle. The appreciation and approval from residents will encourage them to be a professional and responsible doctor in the future.
