Nowadays, as charity donation becomes more and more popular, there is heated debate around whether the donors or the charity foundations shall decide where the money goes. For me, I still believe this decision shall be made by the charity foundation.

Firstly, charity foundations are more professional. As public organizations, they have direct access to many data and statistics that are not accessible to the general public. For example, they may have information about which villages are always under poverty and which neighborhoods are suffering from droughts recently. With our money donated to them, the charity foundations know the best how to allocate the donated money most effectively, so as the people actually in need can receive our support. In contrast, our only information source about the people in need is the media — except those suffering from severe natural disasters like earthquake, I hardly know who I can help even if I want to help them as much as I can. There must be many more other people whose tragedies are not covered by the media. Without charity foundations helping us to direct our money to them, we will never know their situations, let alone donating money to them.
