In no other time in history have we witnessed such a growing number of people traveling abroad in our country. The main driven force behind this soaring number must be the thriving economy and speeding up transportation. Among those tourists, there are both old people who mean to kill the boring time after retirement, and young people who aim at expanding outlooks. In my opinion, traveling to foreign countries is a more beneficial activity for youngsters.

To begin with, at a young age, we have the vigor and vitality to explore the foreign world. When the idea of traveling abroad occurs to our mind, there is much to do for us to have an unforgettable trip, like booking flight and train tickets, reserving accommodation, planning the more efficient itinerary for tourist attractions, in order to have a full picture of the alien country and to experience the local culture. All these tasks are inevitable for we young people to travel independently rather than to follow a tour guide which may be the option when we get old and become impatient to do the research and arrangement by ourselves. More importantly, traveling to a country in long distance requires much physical and mental power, while people in old age may lack the necessary strength and perseverance. For instance, we may have to walk several hours per day to visit a museum or gallery or to climb a mountain, which is even very exhausting for young adults. In addition, we young people with curiosity and open minds are usually much more tolerant to the possibly less tasteful local foods which may turn the more than one week traveling in a foreign culture into a torture rather than an enjoyment for old people.

In contemporary society, with the gradually raised living standard, it has become a common phenomenon that people in growing numbers, regardless of their age, have been to foreign countries. Therefore, there arises a heated debate over whether it is better to travel abroad for younger people than for older people. From my perspective, travelling abroad at a younger age is much better, for the following reasons.

Firstly, consider the more leisure time owned by the young. It is self-evident that travelling abroad is quite time-consuming, which means that possessing enough vacations and holidays is the precondition for taking a journey in foreign countries. As we all know, younger people, especially students, usually have summer and winter vacations so that they have no trouble in sparing some time for the travel. However, it is a totally different story for the elders. To illustrate, older people, usually employees in companies or children’s parents, are bound by their jobs or their families nearly all the time. In other words, the limited free time left for them makes it less likely to take a tour in foreign countries.
