The rules that societies expect today young people to follow and obey are too strict.
Young people are bound by a wide array of social and legal conventions, and it seems to me that these rules are excessive and inappropriate. Too many strict rules have hindered the growth of young people.
If anyone needs convincing evidence that the society has created too many rules for young people, here is the proof. Social conventions are the first things that impeded the development of the young. Certain standardized paths are set for the young people in my country and these linear paths define the success of young people. Take schooling, one of the mechanisms for young people to gain success, as an example. It follows a route like this: 12-year-time education to prepare you for college which prepares you for work and an approach to a decent job with a brief period of independence before settling down as an adult. Deviating from this is generally called “go astray” and causes tensions in family. Therefore, it sounds horrible for young people to drop out of schools or colleges. However, this is exactly what Steve Jobs did. He became successful without following the most accepted route to success. The problem is that, the rules known as social conventions, which were initially intended to help young people, end up being obstacles.

Social rules play an important role in every society, but whether or not the rules for young people are reasonable can be controversial. Some people believe that social rules for young people today are too strict, while others think they are reasonable. I believe that social rules for young people are not only reasonable, but good, because they help young people behave themselves and prevent them from hurting themselves.
First and foremost, social rules exist as a way to instruct young people in proper conduct. For example, society expects young people to go to school every day and spend most of their day studying—this is to his or her own benefit. If this rule didn’t exist, young people might waste all their time playing video games or participating in other unimportant activities instead of spending their time learning how to read, write, and do mathematics. In this way, social rules help young people to use their time well and make good preparations for the future.
